Over the years, Donna and I continued to have an ongoing relationship and frequent phone calls and get togethers. David had lived with me a couple of times when he was younger and then moved just about 10 minutes away from where Milton and I lived after he had married Leslie. I had not seen much of Hebert. I would hear about him through Donna and David. I had seen him last at Darlene's house when our grandmother and aunts had visited there. I had seen his twin boys, Tre and Casey, on that visit and at that time, they were just toddlers. Hebert came to live with David briefly around 2006 and then had left California to live in Arizona. David and Leslie hosted a visit from Tre and Casey previously and now they were visiting again in July 2007.
On the previous trip, which I have very little recollection of, I know I had taken them to San Francisco's Chinatown and David had given them money for souvenirs. I took them to Dim Sum and then, as we wandered through Chinatown, they saw these pellet guns in the storefront windows that looked like real assault weapons. Being the adolescent boys they were at the time, they were excited by these guns and wanted to buy one. I was very hesitant about this. I didn't think it was a good idea at all but they had the money that David had given them and were insistent that it would be okay to get a pellet gun. I didn't feel like I wanted to be authoritarian toward them as I had only seen them a couple of times in their lives. I was not sure it was really my responsibility to tell them what the could and couldn't buy.
Sure enough, when we got back to David's house, he took the pellet gun away from the boys. I don't know if it was returned to them ever or not. We did have a nice time otherwise. I don't know if I have any pictures somewhere of that visit but these pics and video are from the July 2007 visit.
